Canfield’s Anna Kan qualified for the Division I girls tennis state tournament after finishing in sixth place on Saturday in the District tournament at Springside Health & Racquet Club in Akron.
Kan had lost on Thursday in the second round to eventual district champion Hannah Kassaie of Mayfield, but beat Hudson’s Sunny Fan 6-4. 6-3 in her initial consolation match on Saturday. In the fifth-place match, Kan lost to Amara Brahmbhatt of St. Joseph Academy 6-1, 6-1.
The top six finishers qualified for the state tournament scheduled Friday and Saturday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason.
The Howland doubles team of Francesco Elisco and Kate Li fell just outside the top six and failed to qualify, losing on Saturday in a consolation match to Lexi Ospelt and Kayra Koprulu of Magnificat in a close matchup, 6-4, 6-3.
Elisco and Li, like Kan, had won their first match, then lost their second on Thursday.
