NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Carter Hart made 33 saves and fourth-line forward Michael Raffl scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period in the Philadelphia Flyers’ 3-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night. Captain Claude Giroux scored his first of the year and defenseman Nate Prosser had his first since April 2018 to help the Flyers sweep the two-game series in New Jersey against their Turnpike rivals. Defenseman Damon Severson scored for New Jersey, and Scott Wedgewood made 14 saves. The Devils are without top goalie Mackenzie Blackwood after a positive COVID-19 test.

BOSTON (AP) — Patrice Bergeron scored twice and Chris Wagner and Sean Kuraly had one goal apiece to help Boston beat Pittsburgh 4-1. It was the Bruins’ fourth straight victory and second over the Penguins in three days. Jaroslav Halak stopped 16 shots for Boston. It was Bergeron’s fourth and fifth goals of the season and the first for Kuraly and Wagner. Cody Ceci scored and Tristan Jarry had 16 saves for the Penguins.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers are open to having quarterback Ben Roethlisberger return next season if the math works out. Roethlisberger carries a $41 million salary cap hit for 2021, a number team president Art Rooney II says is too high. Rooney says the team has already approached Roethlisberger about finding a workaround that gives the team some financial flexibility in the offseason. Rooney praised Roethlisberger’s performance this season, saying he was “almost unstoppable” at times as Pittsburgh finished 12-4.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins say their expectations will not change after general manager Jim Rutherford’s abrupt resignation. Rutherford led the Penguins to consecutive Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017 but stepped down suddenly with less than six months remaining on his contract. Patrik Allvin is taking over for Rutherford on an interim basis. The 46-year-old Allvin is the first Swedish-born general manager in NHL history. Allvin says the pieces are in place to keep the Penguins competitive in the crowded East Division.
