The Seattle Sports Commission opened voting today for their 86th Annual Sports Star of the Year Awards. This year, the Seahawks are nominated for two different categories – Sports Story of the Year and Men’s Sports Star of the Year.
Along with other local sports stories, the Seahawks are nominated for winning the NFC West division – their 11th division title, ending the 2020 regular season at 12-4. The team is also recognized for their efforts as the only team in the NFC with zero players or coaches testing positive for COVID-19.
Featured among MLB, MLS and collegiate players, K.J. Wright is up for the Seattle Men’s Sports Star of the Year Award, as he finished his 10th season with the Seahawks. “This season was everything that I hoped it would be, just my 10th year with Seattle, I was balling just looking good making plays all over the field, and it felt really, really good, because a lot of people counted me out,” Wright said. “A lot of people doubted that I could do it, and I proved to myself how good I am, I proved to the whole world how good I am. So I’m proud of myself, I’m proud of my team for helping me get here… This season couldn’t have gone any better.
Wright put up outstanding numbers this past season, recording 86 tackles, 10 passes defensed, 11 tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. After changing positions in Week 2, Wright continued to make an impact on the defense and play a pivotal role in the Seahawks’ NFC West championship season.
